So we get a call on hwy 471 near hwy 43 for a single car accident. We are about half way there and the fire chief calls us up an says, "Patient is stable, but we aren't putting her on a backboard or moving her till you get here. She has a tree branch impaled in her leg." It was incredible. She totalled her truck, was ejected, was thrown against a tree at which time the branch impaled her thigh, and then her weight snapped the branch and she fell to the ground.
Amazingly, that was her only injury. She should have died but she didnt. There were no arteries hit, no major nerve damage. Just a big stick through her leg. This made up for all the bs calls we went on earlier in the day. It was great.

that gives me the major heebie jeebies...
one lucky lady!
This is PRECISELY why I could NOT do what you do man. Hats off to you.
I have a Q&A for ya... thought about it when you answered MR's question about having President's Day off...
since your line of work is 24/7... how do they handle holidays? Is it overtime for those working them? How is it decided who gets the big ones off (Christmas, etc.)...seniority?
OMG! They just had a similar thing on one of those cable ER shows except it was a wooden fence picket. egad. Further proof that the medical field was not my calling.....
To answer your q and a we get paid time and a half on holidays, unless we are already in overtime, then its double time.
I sent this to my pastor (knocked unconscious by a limb while cutting firewood, ended up calling for rescue on his VFD radio). I'm glad he wasn't impaled through the head.
