To all of my friends born before 1977
My daughter asked when I and her mommy where born. We told her I was born in 76 and mommy in 72. She explained that she remembered more things about the 70's than I did. This made me wonder what I did remember about that time. The only thing I could think of was this......http://youtube.com/watch?v=ucii4kApEGo

Talk about pruning a tree
So we get a call on hwy 471 near hwy 43 for a single car accident. We are about half way there and the fire chief calls us up an says, "Patient is stable, but we aren't putting her on a backboard or moving her till you get here. She has a tree branch impaled in her leg." It was incredible. She totalled her truck, was ejected, was thrown against a tree at which time the branch impaled her thigh, and then her weight snapped the branch and she fell to the ground.
Amazingly, that was her only injury. She should have died but she didnt. There were no arteries hit, no major nerve damage. Just a big stick through her leg. This made up for all the bs calls we went on earlier in the day. It was great.

Q and A time
Bring them on. I really enjoy answering peoples questions. If you got one, ask. By the way, Flu season sucks.
Q: A call where I just wanted to say, Why did you call us?
A: It was probably the 20 year old who called 911 because he chipped his tooth when he decided to eat a frozen french fry because he was hungry. We told him that it would be a waste of time to go to the ER but he insisted, so he got in the back of the bus and we took him to UMC. When we arrived, we went to triage, explained what had happend, the nurse told him he needed to go to the dentist and to not waste their or our time again for something to stupid.
Q: A call where it was something stupid, but they really did need to go to the hospital.
A: This wasn't stupid on the patients part, it was on the familys part. We ran a call for a 80+ yo woman who was near resp. arrest. We were in Clinton, so the logical place to take her would be Central Miss which is right off highway 18. I had to argue with the family because they wanted her to go to Baptist because thats where her records were. I politely pointed out, that her records could be faxed over to CMMC with no problem. That wasnt the right answer. They were still screaming and asked for my supervisors phone number. I gave it to them and said we had to leave for the hospital and WE WERE going to CMMC. They started screaming we would be charged with kidnapping (which is a legit charge in this business) if we took her there. Finally, I said bluntly "Fine, I will take her to Baptist against our professional judgement, but when she rolls into the ER dead, you know who to blame." They said they didnt think she was that sick in which case I said, yall are idiots and left for CMMC. When the family arrived at the hospital, they told the doctor about what had happened and he said he was glad they came there, because she would have died in route had we bypassed them. Way to go doc.

Talk about a crazy shift.
Yesterday was crazy. There were over 300 medical 911 calls in the tri county area. Generally, there are only around 200 calls a day. The flu, or something like it, is kicking everyones butt. It started off for us with an 8yo girl who knock over a pot of boiling water on her back. She is fine and will have only a small burn scar thankfully. Much later in the shift, we had our first fatality of the year. It was (or had been) a mint prestine 1966 Buick Electra, totally stunning. Some 30+ yo crackhead basically broke into his fathers house and dad proceeded to kick sons butt, eventually holding him at gun point until Rankin SO arrived. But before that happened, the son took a knife to the cloth top of the car and ripped it to shreds. Asshole.
I came home today and read an article about this woman. She is the definition of crazy. Check it out. http://www.mjordanmistress.blogspot.com/ She is a woman who believes her son was fathered by Michael Jordan. Despite two to paternity test that have shown he is not the father, she continues to harass him. I'm not a MJ fan, but I feel for him with dealing with this woman. She is whacked out.
Yall be safe out there.
