Q: What is your company policy on what you do while on 'the clock' but not on a call? Are you suppose to stay in the vehicle at all times? Are you allowed to drive about or just park it til you need it? Places that are off limits while you are on duty?
A: I will do my best to answer this. We have four trucks that are 24 hours and they have a station that they stay at most of the time when not running calls. Its just like an apartment, beds, tv kitchenettes and such. The other trucks are 12 hours. When not on a call, you usually just stay in the truck and talk or read or something to that effect. You are not required to stay in the vehicle at all times. The majority of the time when you see a unit driving around, they are "posting". They go to designated areas and wait. The more 911 calls that you have, the fewer trucks you have to respond, so they are moved to these spots that will generally give them the best chance of getting to a call faster. The more calls, the few the trucks, the closer they are moved in towards Jackson. The fewer the calls, means more trucks and they are more spread out.
Q: What level of EMT are most crews (EMT I, II, or paramedics.)
A: In our area, we run with a Paramedic and EMT on each truck. The only time that we do not do this is when the guv declares a state of emergency, in which case, two emts can be put on a truck to run non emergency trasfers i.e. taking a patient back to their nursing home or to dialysis.

I know who provides our ambulance service, but only because Mr. H had to use it.
Years ago everyone was using M.A.S.T. trousers. Since I left the medical rescue field, I never see them in action anymore. Are they a thing of the past or something better is now available.
unimp, they are a thing of the past. they dont even teach them in basic school anymore.they got real bad about creating compartment problems. now we use traction if its broken, tourniquet if its last resort or something in between.
Okay, I live in a house that is divided into apartments. There is the door to my apartment which is locked. There is the foyer door to the outside which is locked. And the house has a fence with electronic gates. If I called 911 for you and couldn't get up to unlock all those doors, how would you get in to me??
this one i wont answer on the main page. if we need to get in we either call the fire dept in jackson to break the door down or in rankin county the sheriffs office will do it for us. we will get to you, one way or another
This is actually a relief. I've always wondered that since I'm single. Thanks!
