Is there a training/education difference between EMTs and Paramedics? I've never really thought about the different titles.

I saw that last night too. Ouch. You'd think they'd know better, or at least ask the people they're riding with. If they spent 24 hours with the emergency personnel, you'd think SOMEBODY would have clued them in!

an EMT (me) is required to to have one semester in emergency medicine, 36 hours of clinicals on an ambulance, and 12 hours in an ER. We are also require to have 48 hours of continueing educations every two years as well as 24 hours of refresher blocks from a local college. In Mississippi I am allowed to give oxygen, nitorglycerin, epi and a few other things. (in other states and emt can intubate and tube a patient, much more advanced)

A medic is required be an emt. They must take an additional 3 semesters of school as well as an additional 360 hours on an ambulance 108 hours in an ER. They are required 48 hours of con ed, 48 hours of refreshers every two years. Due to the different certifications a medic needs, they will usually knock out 60+ hours of con ed. A medic starts IV's, pushes drugs, can read EKGs, tube a patient, pretty much anything to save a persons life.

Medics save people. Basics(emts) save medics.

any more questions, feel free to ask.

I would ask more questions but I'm smart enough to realize I'm confused enough to keep my mouth shut. =)
